Joe Biden is too old. Trump dodged a bullet. California is burning. Dictators are coming out of the woodwork. Social media is turning our teenagers into zombies. If, like me, you’re feeling overwhelmed these days, you may find meditation useful. I never wanted to meditate, but when my therapist urged me to try a daily practice, I decided to go for it. Ever the organized thinker, I curated a list of meditations for a better day and I’m sharing it with you. Enjoy!
Meditations for All Occasions
With a couple of weeks of (near) daily meditation under my belt, I’ve been finding that even a short session helps short-circuit my anxiety and increases my sense of calm. I also feel closer to a state of “equilibrium,” in which my emotions and thoughts are balanced rather than being out of whack.

Mindfulness Meditations for a Better Day
I’m beginning to realize that peace and balance live inside a mindful mind, rather than one that skitters from thought to thought, worry to worry. These meditations focus on mindfulness while giving you a well-rounded experience.

Affirmations of Self Worth
An affirmation is the process of providing ourselves with support and encouragement through self-directed positive language. While engaging in self-affirmation won’t change anything around you, research shows that positive thinking can rewire the brain.
Most importantly, practicing affirmations can change the way you feel about things. The process works because the brain’s neuroplasticity allows synaptic connections to reorganize and support new ways of thinking. Way to go, brain!!!
Thankfulness and Gratitude
I’ve heard so much about gratitude practice – that it can benefit our emotional well-being and overall health. It can also help us cope with stress when we focus on the good things – big or small – in our lives.
But can these and other meditations for a better day really make a difference? Yes! When we are conscious of the good stuff, and truly appreciative, life feels so much richer and, may I say, happier?
