It is time for me to confess something. Before I do, I ask that you not share this confession with anyone. Agreed? Great! I am besotted by America’s Got Talent (AGT). Most especially by the extraordinary, and not so extraordinary, performers who put themselves and their talent on the line in front of a huge audience. And I am besotted by Tom Ball and his AGT auditions in the current “All-Stars” extravaganza, a world class competition with the winner crowned the ultimate AGT All-Star.
As of this writing, I do not know whether Tom was chosen by AGT Super Fans as the competition’s winner. That will be revealed in a week. But, for me, who wins is not the point. For me, and I hope for you, it is about discovering an amazing singer.
School teacher Tom Ball, from Sussex, England, shot to critical acclaim after blowing away the nation on Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) in 2022. After being described as “exceptional and remarkable” by judges, Amanda Holden proclaimed Tom “one of the best singers the show has seen in 16 years.” Tom’s quiet confidence and bubbly personality won him an army of global supporters throughout series 15 of BGT with show stopping performances and standing ovations. Tom eventually finished as a runner up.
I am honored to include two of Tom’s AGT auditions in this blog’s Songbook category.
Tom Ball and His AGT Auditions: “The Sounds of Silence”
I’ve cried every time I listened to Tom sing Simon and Garfunkel’s masterpiece. And, before I watched his second “All-Stars” audition, I believed Tom could never top his first. Boy, was I wrong! Here is “Creep” by Radiohead.
