Sweet & Funny Self-Care Quickies: Happy Hour For Your Soul

Do you know someone who’d benefit by a free ‘n easy self-care routine? Perhaps your spouse who puts in 12 hours a day at the computer? A friend who’s down in the dumps or under the weather? Or perhaps that “someone” is yourself. Now, while I cannot offer you a massage unless you come to my place, I can offer you a few self-care quickies right here on UGL!

I know what you’re thinking. “I’m swamped by work. By my kids. By life. When can I focus on self-care?” Blah, blah, blah. Look, I know it’s easier said than done, but, really, is taking 10 minutes a day for laughter and inspiration a lot to ask of yourself? And the benefits are immediate!

Remember: self-care means laffing; self-care means finding inspiration; and self-care means learning new stuff. So, let’s get down to business! {Note: everything you see here is true.}

Let’s take a break from laffing and connect with something bigger than ourselves. This video is about the power of a dream to inspire our own courage. And there’s even a touch of drama provided by the incomparable Simon Cowell. (America’s Got Talent – AGT — is a huge happy hour resource.)  Watch this whenever you feel discouraged or disconnected.

Since we know that music has the power to soothe the soul, clink this link to UGL’s “Songbook” category. Here you’ll find such favorites as “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by way of the Muppets.

For the remaining few still working in the corporate world, this one’s for YOU! The Worst Speech in the World is a whimsical look at the horrible buzzwords companies use to turn their employees into zombies. This video, a mind-boggling mélange of “B words,” was shot at the International Association of Business Communicators’ 2012 World Conference.

And now for some “double talk,” a tsunami of words that sound like words, but ain’t. These two performers, in very different venues, epitomize this sacred art. First stop: Reggie Watts’ performance at a highbrow TED Talk in which he speaks in the languages of various countries and sub-cultures, and, of course, in “English.”

Finally, in closing, it’s time for QUIK ‘N DIRTY HOLIDAY RECIPE IDEAS, sponsored by the recently renovated Billy Bob Budget Motel, featuring doors in every room, unlimited water (lead optional), and in-room mini meth labs for a small fee of five dollars. That’s the Billy Bob Budget Motel, where the bed bugs know your name. And they’re always glad you came.
